The word spy is the far east rendition of the Salem Witch trials. People were charged and sentenced without any trial and just labeled spies. This wasn't even stemming from false evidence or any sort of indicator other than race, thus stemmed seemingly out Of thin air, one official would suggest someone as a spy and magically their mythos changed to that of a weapon of espionage.

It got to the point that any outsider or even suspicious insider was labeled as a spy from the top of the hierarchy down to the children of the village who often tailed foreigners as spies. Having such a powerful authoritative structure allows for the possibility of labeling a victim structure that was so quick and without substance. This ensured that the peoples would most certainly be distrustful of any outsiders preventing alliances of any kind.

This a status that many of the Korean women brought into the comfort homes faced. These women immediately had the label of being the enemy foreigner as well as forfeiting much of themselves in the process.
